I love being a Round Rock Senior Photographer!  The media always portrays our teens as self centered and superficial.  The kids I meet are anything but that.  Undoubtedly, I am incredibly blessed, but I think today’s teens also get a really bad rap.  Reagan is one of these awesome kids.  When I met with Reagan and her mom at the coffee house before our session, I decided she was adorable when she professed her love for babies bundled up in winter wear.   Insisting that she bring her beloved rescue dog to her session only confirmed my decision.   She LOVES her little GiGi and it definitely shows.

Fast forward through a fun session where she braved slippery rocks in cold water to get some amazing images, to her ordering session where more of her inner beauty came pouring out.  When we were looking at the picture above, she sighed ever so softly and rubbed the scar on her wrist in the image.  I let her know that I could remove it if she wanted me to.  She resolutely told me that she didn’t want it removed.  That it is a part of who she is.  Weeks before, at our coffee date, she had told me of the serious accident she had been involved in years ago.  She endured hospital stays and multiple surgeries.  It would be reasonable to not want to be reminded of such a difficult time of your life, but it was then that Reagan decided that she wanted to be a surgeon, so instead of just remembering that time with pain, she also remembers it as when she found her purpose.  She wears her scars as a badge of honor.

There are many adults who don’t have that much strength of character.  How many of us are ashamed of our scars?  How many of us hide our scars?  How many of us fail to see how the scars of our past add to our current beauty?  Amazing that a high school senior can already recognize that.

She is so excited to head off next year to start her journey towards becoming a doctor.  Her family is immensely proud of her, as they should be.  She’s a pretty amazing girl!

Do you have a Senior in the Round Rock/Pflugerville/Cedar Park/Austin area?  I would love to tell their story.

Every work of art begins with a story.
